Letter From The Editor: 2025 Winter Edition
When I joined Alger Magazine in August 2021, I could not have expected what was to come. Alger gave me and my fellow authors a rare opportunity: a platform to pursue and express my interests. University can be time consuming as assignments and essays pile up. However, Alger is a space where like-minded people can come together to exchange ideas and grow as aspiring academics and professionals. During my four years at Alger, my writing and editing skills significantly improved compared to my freshman year. While compiling and editing articles, I made life-long friendships that have lasted post-graduation. It is an incredible honor to lead and foster the new generation of Alger writers.
Additionally, Alger has found a new home on Substack. Our switch from the CCWA website to Substack was motivated by technical considerations. Substack allows our authors to more easily share their articles and fix any mistakes that may escape our editorial scrutiny. Despite the change in publication, our articles are as pristine as ever. Our winter edition includes a variety of articles about some of the world’s most pressing issues. As my team and I edited these articles, I was amazed by the effort many of our new and young writers put into their pieces. Their hard work shines through in every sentence.
I want to offer my thanks and gratitude to Alger’s managing editors: Benjamin Monroe and Macayla Moore. You both have been great pillars of support. I do not know how I would have edited all these articles without you. Your work shows through in your own articles and in the final product of this season’s Alger edition. I appreciate all your time and dedication, and I wish you both the very best.
On a personal note, I want to thank Rachel Simroth–Alger’s previous editor-in-chief–for her help. Whenever I had a question about planning a meeting or editing, she took time out of her busy schedule to help me. I really appreciate your help Rachel! I hope I have lived up to your expectations of ensuring Alger’s quality and cutting-edge articles. Additionally, I hope our dear readers appreciate and take away much from this season’s articles. I know I certainly did. For all the sweat and labor we put in, the reward is ten-fold in knowledge and gratitude.
Sincerely,
Michael Sarkis
Editor-in-Chief
