Letter from the Editor: Spring 2025
As I write this letter, it is the last time I will publish with Alger Magazine. It truly has been an amazing journey. When I started writing for Alger as a freshman, I dreamed of becoming the editor-in-chief of this amazing magazine. Now, I sometimes have trouble believing that my dream came true. I have made so many amazing friends along the way while growing as a person and writer. I am really thankful for the opportunities that Alger has given me, and I know it will continue to be a space where like-minded people can come together to exchange ideas and grow as aspiring academics and professionals. It has been an incredible honor to serve as the editor-in-chief of Alger Magazine.
As with Alger’s winter edition, the spring edition includes a variety of articles about some of the world’s most interesting and pressing issues. One article discusses the history of cosplay and the role it plays in bringing together people from across the world. Another article examines the effects of brain drain in Africa and potential methods to combat it. As my team and I edited these articles, I was amazed by the effort many of our new and young writers put into their pieces. Their hard work shines through in every sentence.
I want to offer my thanks and gratitude to Alger’s managing editors: Benjamin Monroe and Macayla Moore. You both have been great pillars of support. I do not know how I would have edited all these articles without you. Your work shows through in your own articles and in the final product of this spring’s Alger edition. I appreciate all your time and dedication, and I wish you both the very best. Additionally, I will be leaving Alger in the good hands of Jesmine Agyei, the new editor-in-chief.
On a personal note, I want to thank my parents–Hamid and Nadia Sarkis. I would not have been able to do what I do without your continuous love and support. You two have always been a shoulder I can rely on, and I cannot express how much both of you mean to me. Additionally, I hope our dear readers appreciate and take away much from this spring’s articles. I know I certainly did. For all the sweat and labor we put in, the reward is ten-fold in knowledge and gratitude.
Sincerely,
Michael Sarkis
Editor-in-Chief
